Felicitation of Padmashree Awardee Sukri Bommu Gowda on 24th February, 2017
The KLE Society felicitated Padmashree Awardee Sukri Bommu Gowda, 80, a doyen of tribal folk music at KLE Society’s institutions at Ankola on Friday 24th Feb 2017. Known as the nightingale of the Halakki Vokkaliga tribes, her contribution to the enrichment and propagation of Indian Traditional Folk Culture and practices is inspirational and it was a matter of great privilege for KLE Society to honor the veteran artist.
Speaking on the occasion, Honorable Rajya Sabha MP and Chairman KLE Society, Dr. Prabhakar Kore highlighted the role of KLE Society in the promotion of tradition and culture of Karnataka over its 100 years of existence. Applauding the role of KLE Society in taking education to the grass root levels Padmashree Awardee Sukri BommuGowda stressed on the virtues of simplicity and perseverance as essentials for a successful and satisfying life.
The function was graced by the presence of Shri. J M Munavalli, Member Board of Management, KLE Society, Shri. B R Patil, Member Board of Management, KLE Society, Dr. D L Bhatkal, Secretary of Local Governing Body, KLE Institutions at Ankola, faculty members, students and other prominent people in the region. The event also witnessed the release of two books, ” Sheshagiri Pikale”, an account of the benevolent patron who was instrumental in establishment of KLE’s institutions of education and healthcare at Ankola and ” KLE Institutions at Ankola”, an account of the contributions of KLE Society to the lives of people in the said region.
