National Recognition

On 23 June 2026, President Droupadi Murmu conferred the Padma Shri upon Dr. Prabhakar Basavaprabhu Kore during the Civil Investiture Ceremony at Ganatantra Mandap, Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi. On the occasion, Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and several other distinguished dignitaries graced the ceremony. Dr. Kore received the honour in the Literature and Education category, thereby recognising his lifelong contribution to education, healthcare, research, and institution building. Overall, Padma for Shri Prabhakar Kore stands as a proud milestone in a journey dedicated to nation building through knowledge and service.

Background

Dr. Kore served as the Chairman of KLE Society from 1984 to 2025. During these four decades, his visionary leadership transformed the organisation into one of India’s largest and most respected educational networks. Consequently, Padma Shri Prabhakar Kore reflects the remarkable growth of KLE Society under his stewardship. Under his guidance, KLE expanded its presence across medicine, dentistry, nursing, pharmacy, engineering, law, management, and school education. Today, its institutions educate thousands of students and also provide quality healthcare to communities across India.

Born in Ankali, Karnataka, Dr. Kore believed that education could transform lives and strengthen society. Accordingly, he translated that vision into action by creating opportunities for students from rural and underserved communities. Furthermore, his leadership promoted academic excellence, scientific research, innovation, and community engagement. As a result, these institutions continue to produce professionals who contribute significantly to national development.
